Quenching efficacy of TiO_2 on novel pyridine derivative: A photophysical investigation

A biologically active pyridine derivative viz 6-Methoxy-4-((pyridin-2-yloxy)methyl)-2H-chromen-2- one(MPM2) was synthesized and quenching effectof TiO_2 metal oxide over this molecule was investigated. Increased concentrations of TiO_2 caused increase in absorbance and decrease in intensity of the molecule. Absorption spectra were analyzed using Benesi-Hilderbrand relation and Fluorescence spectra were studied using Stern-Volmerplots, further these plots were linear in nature and value of intercept was nearly one. High value of association constant and binding constant indicated that there is enough interaction between TiO_2 and MPM2. With increasing concentration of TiO_2 there was also decrease in life time of the molecule which indicated that the nature of quenching is purely dynamic.
