Although single-photon double ionization of Helium is well understood theoretically as well as experimentally, much rema ins to be done in the multiphoton regime, especially when it comes to ab initio approaches. Even two-photon double ionization within perturbation theory represents practically unchartered territory, with formidable difficulties. We review here recent progress formulated in terms of discretized bases constructed as linear combinations of B-splines. After a brief outline of the main aspects of the method, we present a number of illustrative results including an attempt at solving the time-dependent Schrodinger equation. Our work on He is complementary to that of Taylor and collaborators. Finally, we discuss the application of the same techniques to the study of the strong coupling between triply excited hollow states in Lithium.
