摘要

In this paper, we have shown preliminary studies of the optical properties of thin films prepared by magnetron sputtering and containing Tb~(3+) or Sm~(3+). These materials have potential applications for extending the sensitivity of solar cells towards shorter wavelengths. The PL spectrum of Sm~(3+) in SiO_2 with 488 nm excitation has been measured, and a tentative assignment of the observed bands has been made.
