The research was oriented to the observation of production rate of oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) on beech (Fagus sylvatica) and aspen (Populus tremula) stumps. The primary aim of experiments was to verify assumption about faster decomposition of wood after careful infection with wood destroying mushroom Pleurotus ostreatus as well as the effect of an intensity of fruit body creating on the chemical composition of wood. The highest mean value of biological efficiency (B. E.) (29. 05 %) was found on beech stumps. Relatively high values of B. E. were recorded also on aspen stumps (21.69 %). Maximal value of B. E. on individual stump reached 47.75 % on beech stump and 45. 10 % on aspen one. Minimal value of B. E. was 7.79 % on aspen stump and 17. 51 % on beech one. Total yield of fruit bodies from 40 beech stumps was 353 695 g, more than twice above the total production on 44 aspen stumps (157 100 g). Maximal values of production were reached in the third year. Inoculated stumps had in average about 37% higher content of N than control ones. The ash content was about 90 % higher in inoculated stumps. The share of mineral elements Ca, Mn, Zn, Cu, Pb, Al, B, and Mg has an increasing tendency in inoculated stumps. The only element with a significant decrease (25%-74 %) of its content in inoculated stumps was K. The stumps with a minimal production of fruit bodies and the stumps with the lowest value of B. E. had the highest share of the mineral elements Pb, Al, Fe, Mg and P.
