This paper addresses the major issues involved in planning, constructing, submitting and maintaining a Railway Safety Case. The emphasis throughout is on practical advice which can be applied by various types of organisations to assist in the whole life cycle of railway safety cases. The paper draws upon practical experiences gained whilst working with a variety of train operators and railway ifrastructure organisations over the period in which the current safety case regime has been developed.
