摘要

The publication of this book is very timely, with transitional work often perceived as stranding service users and families between departments or is this possibly the budgets of departments? Petch acknowledges in the conclusion of this edited volume that 'more is written about the challenges and inadequacies around transition than about successful strategies andachievements.' This book, however, has a positive orientation that establishes the importance of managing transitions proactively, and aiming for a more individualized approach to the needs of people receiving input from Social Services. Petch argues in her opening chapter that whilst there has been contemporary attention to the process of change, this has focused more on structural factors than the perspectives of individuals needing to engage with a process of transition.
