摘要

Psychological constructs have been applied to health research in a variety of ways. Certain aspects of personality, for example, have been shown to have direct influences on ill-health while others have been shown to act as a buffer against ill-health. Various aspects of personality have been used as a model for understanding individual differences in health behaviours. The FFM (five factor model) has emerged as the dominant framework for studying personality,and so has become a model to help understand differences in preventa-tive health behaviours. Hughes and coworkers found that those who reported good adherence to their prescribed medication scored significantly higher in the personality dimension 'conscientiousness'.The present ongoing study aims to examine the influence of the personality dimension 'extraversion' and the six lower facets of the personality dimension 'conscientiousness' (i.e. 'competence', 'order', 'dutifulness', 'achievement striving', 'self-discipline' and 'deliberation') on self-reported adherence to prescribed medication. The study received ethical approval (LREC).
