In time-domain, a new formulation is developed for calculating the acoustic radiation modes. These time domain radiation modes, whose shapes are only dependent on the geometry size and shape of the radiator, but not on the time and its material properties, can be used to arrive at efficient weighting schemes in order to reduce the controller dimensionality. Especially, the first radiation mode accounts for the most of sound radiation, which leads to the development of a new control strategy in time-domain in which by canceling the first radiation mode amplitude, the sound power radiated from the first radiation mode is zero theoretically and the total sound power would decrease effectively, Finally, an adaptive feedback control system based on filtered x-LMS algorithm is designed to control the first mode amplitude. The control effects of the proposed method on the suppression of sound radiation are discussed.
