摘要

"I have never known the weather to be so unpredictable. Rains now tall heavily for a short period and our dry season is much longer. The coffee plants are badly affected - flowering is stopped." Thus stated Willington Wamayeye, the director of a Ugandan coffee co-operative in a recent Oxfam report. Meanwhile in Colombia in February 2009, in the municipality of Palestina, Caldas, the coffee committee wrote an unprecedented open letter to the Director General of the Colombian Coffee Federation: "The quantity of water and the force of the rain has exceeded any existing historical record. The damage caused to infrastructure, landslides and losses of up to 30 per cent in harvest have left producers in a very difficult economic position".
