摘要

This paper aims at figuring out how English mixes with Javanese in the students’ conversations among friends that may indicate English position in the students’ repertoire. The data were collected through a writing task asking the students to write their experience usingEnglish in their daily life especially in talking with friends. The respondents were the English Department students whose parents are Javanese, and selected using availability sampling technique. Beside Javanese, as Indonesian, they can speak bahasa Indonesia. In this case, they canspeak more than two languages, Javanese, bahasa Indonesia , and English. This is to see how English is mixed with Javanese, what phenomena will signify. The data were analyzed using referential and distributional methods. The results show that when talking using Javanese they mix itwith English representing their embodied experiences close to their attributes as young people’s interests like listening to musics, watching movies. They admit that they use English only during learning process in the classroom. The experiences and opinions expressed may support theembodiment theory related to how language represents thought, feeling, and experience. To improve their English competence, the department should expose them to English more frequently in order that they have more experiences using English.
