摘要

In 2017, a Spanish group published a case report of Stevens-Johnson syndrome in a previously healthy 39-year-old man exposed to ambroxol. The patient was admitted to hospital with inflammation of the skin, mainly affecting the oral and genital mucosae, with confluent erosions, vesicu-lation, crusting and a yellow serosanguinous exud-ate (1 ).Ten days before admission, he had taken the mucolytic expectorant ambroxol for a common cold. Investigations into other possible causes of Stevens-Johnson syndrome, including herpes virus or mycoplasma infection, were all negative (1). As of late 2017, the data from the European phar-macovigilance database made available to the public include 66 reports of Stevens-Johnson syndrome and 33 reports of toxic epidermal necrolysis linked to ambroxol (2). Ambroxol is a metabolite of bromhexine (1).The French summaries of product characteristics (SPCs) for Bisolvon0 (containing bromhexine) and Surbronc expectorant ambroxol0 (containing ambroxol) mention the risks of Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis.
