摘要

In parallel to the discovery of acaricidally active tetronic acids, new tetramic acid derivatives were also effective against aphids and other sucking insect species. Spirotetramat was chosen as a development candidate on the basis of its physicochemical parameters, efficacy, pest spectrum, plant compatibility, toxicology, environmental fate as well as economical considerations. Spirotetramat can be prepared in a convergent 12-step synthesis. Due to its physicochemical properties the primary metabolite spirotetramat-enol fulfills the requirements for a phloem-systemic insecticide. Spirotetramat is the first broad-spectrum phloem-mobile insecticide against sucking insects.
