Agrieco can easily claim to be Almeria's top producer of ecological tomatoes as the company's 10 member growers, who cultivate over 120ha, together account for some 50 per cent of intensive organic tomato production in the province. According to managing director Miguel Cazorla Garrido, Agrieco works with a further 50 associated tomato and pepper growers as well as its core producers and employs 980 people directly and indirectly. Agrieco has enjoyed a rapid growth during its 12 years of existence. From an annual production of 952 tonnes in the 2004/05 season, the firm increased its output to 3,000 tonnes by the 2005/06 campaign, which soared to an estimated 10,000 tonnes by the 2006/07 campaign.
