Once again, the annual IEEE-IAS/PCA conference managed to draw a record crowd, with over 1150 participants from 22 countries taking part in five days of meetings, tutorial sessions, technical papers, poster sessions, plant tours and, of course, socialising in Charleston, South Carolina from April 29 to May 3 2007. The IEEE-IAS/PCA is North Americas largest cement conference, and the spring perennial continues to draw larger and larger numbers from the manufacturing, engineering, construction, equipment-supply and research arms of the cement industry. Monday's main focus was the Tutorial Sessions - smaller sessions designed to provide information and education to its participants, as well as the meeting of the PCAs Manufacturing Technical Committee. The main exhibit hall was also open on Monday afternoon. Featuring 134 exhibitors, many existing relationships were renewed, new contacts made, and information exchanged during each two-hour afternoon session. The exhibitors ranged from the large, international equipment suppliers to the smaller local engineering firms, who were all kept busy by the steady stream of participants with a drink in one hand and a bag full of company literature and gifts in the other.
