In the production of high-quality castings, the quality of the melts plays a decisive role. It is necessary to avoid contamination of the melt caused by transferring melts. Exact temperature control and minimum gas absorption by the melt is also of utmost importance if high-quality castings are to be achieved. It has been shown that electrically heated melting furnaces meet these requirements, while at the same time minimising impact on environment and workplace. Dr Olaf Irretier of Nabertherm GmbH discusses the use of these furnaces.
