摘要

The capacity of soils to record and keep the information on the conditions and processes of their formation is widely used by pedologists and specialists in adjacent sciences for reconstructing the natural environments in the past--starting with the Carboniferous and Triassic to the Pleistocene and the Holocene. The Paleozoic buried paleosols were studied mainly by sedimentologists, who described their separate diagnostic features and horizons in the soil profile; less frequently did they characterize the buried soil as an entity. In Carboniferous paleosols, the main attention has been paid to the cemented carbonate-enriched horizons (calcretes), whereas the unconsolidated silicate clayey horizons of paleosols are far less known. Paleosols were traditionally used as indicators of the subaerial position of the territory, since they were formed at the lowering sea level on the drained marine limestones.
