摘要

The transcription factor Foxpl helps maintain the quiescence of naive T cells by inhibiting IL-7Ralpha expression and diminishing signaling by the kinase Erk. Before encountering foreign antigens, naive T lymphocytes are maintained as resting cells. Although it was initially assumed to be the default state, further studies have suggested that quiescence is actively maintained. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying such restraint have proven elusive. In this issue of Nature Immunology, Feng et al. identify a role for the transcription factor Foxpl in enforcing the quiescence of naive T cells by repressing expression of the interleukin 7 receptor alpha-chain (IL-7Ralpha) and attenuating activation of the kinase Erk.
