PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acquire the number of persons in a predetermined space, such as an elevator, a train, a hall, even if any of the persons create a blind space in the predetermined space.SOLUTION: Distances to an object present in a predetermined two-dimensional plane or three-dimensional space in a predetermined space are detected by a sensor, and a distribution of the detected distances in the two-dimensional plane or three-dimensional space is acquired. A newly acquired distribution of distances detected by the sensor in the two-dimensional plane or three-dimensional space is input into a learning machine which mechanically learns a relation between the number of persons in the predetermined space and the distribution of distances in the two-dimensional plane or three-dimensional space, and the learning machine outputs an expected number of persons as an output value.
