PURPOSE:To analyze the meaning of a sentence automatically through simple processing by classifying an input sentence into three groups by analyzing it and by finding a part, which seems to be ''kanji'' from their combinations. CONSTITUTION:The operator inputs a Japanese sentence on keyboard 1 over a look at the display of display unit 2. Then, ''kana'' inputted on keyboard 1 is stored in the memory as codes under the control of control circuit 3. This memory is divided into text memory 4, work memory 5 and program memory 6; and memory 4 is stored with codes from control circuit 3, and program memory 6 with the processing procedure that control circuit 3 should follow, thereby enabling control circuit 3 to find the part which seems to be ''kanji'' by performing various processing according to the contents of memory 5 by referring to the contents. Next, codes inputted to memory 4 are decoded by pattern generator 7 and character patterns stored in pattern memory 8 are selected and sent to unit 2, so that text contents will be displayed.
