摘要

In this paper, the reading behaviors of Japanese learners in the upper intermediate level were analyzed according to reading time, amount of reading, dictionary use, the results of pre- and post-vocabulary tests, and the results of a quiz about the book that the learners read. Data on reading time, amount of reading, and dictionary use were collected from the learners' reading logs recorded on BookLooper, an application for viewing digital books. Results show that the learners who had read more understood the contents better and read faster than those who had read less. Furthermore, learners appeared to learn vocabulary incidentally in a virtuous circle of reading; once they enter that circle, they need to read books that are appropriate to their vocabulary level.
