Single and double rope rescue systems have definite pros and cons in different rescue situations. Ff GREG TOMAN outlines some of the factors involved in deciding which kit should be applied. At an international level, the battle between single and double rope advocates is a never-ending debate. This issue will probably never be fully resolved. It is a bit like comparing an inline descender and a figure-of-eight descender; they are similar, however each has special advantages and disadvantages. A rope rescue system can be viewed in a similar light to a piece of technical rescue equipment. That piece of equipment may be ideal for a particular application, yet in another rescue situation its use may hinder the rescue attempt.
