Talk of cutting farm subsidies has farm groups worried about rural areas that rely on agricultural income. President George W. Bush's administration has recently suggested cutting subsidies by 5 percent to growers of commodities including rice, corn,soybeans, cotton and wheat. The estimate is that $587 million in savings would come from the cuts to program crops and dairies. The plan is to also establish a 250,000 dollar per farm ceiling for payment. Currently the maximum is 360,000 dollar.
